Greenland

1

PARIS - ILULISSAT / approx. 3h15 flight

Flight to Ilulissat, the third largest city in Greenland. Free lunch. Birthplace of Danish explorer Knud Rasmussen, nicknamed the capital of icebergs, Ilulissat has a city center dating from the beginnings of Danish colonization in the 18th century. Its inhabitants still live partly from hunting and fishing. Dinner and installation for 2 nights at the 3 * Arctic Hotel in Ilulissat.

DAY

LULISSAT - THE EQI SERMIA GLACIER

Day dedicated to the discovery of one of the most beautiful glaciers in Greenland located north of Ilulissat, the Eqi Sermia glacier made famous in the mid-20th century by the French polar explorer Paul-Émile Victor. While sailing, you will pass near Oqaatsut small community living in their colorful traditional houses and the fjord called Pakitsoq, where one can observe whales and seals. Lunch on board. Return at the end of the day via Disko Bay. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY

NUUK

Morning arrival in Nuuk. Guided tour of the capital of Greenland, inhabited by the Vikings in the 11th century. The visit to the Kittat ecomuseum offers a unique insight into the making and history of traditional Greenlandic costume. You will also visit the National Museum of Greenland which traces the history of the first Inuit. Lunch. In the afternoon, a Greenlandic family will welcome you for a "kaffemik". Around a coffee, pastries and other local specialties, you will share a friendly moment of local daily life. Dinner and overnight at the Hans hotel Egede 3 * in Nuuk.

DAY

TRADITIONAL SEWING WORKSHOP AND NORTHERN LIGHTS OBSERVATION

You will visit the house of the Ilulissat Women's Association. Greenlanders from different cities across the country meet regularly to chat over a cup of coffee and bring their ancestral traditions to life. You will then discover the secrets of traditional sewing, the old-fashioned treatment of skins, the national costume (Kalaallisuut).
In the evening, outing for the observation of the Northern Lights. A vehicle drives you out of town, away from any light pollution so that the viewing conditions are ideal. While waiting for the aurora to illuminate the dark blue sky, you will listen to the silence that is omnipresent and admire myriad stars. If you are lucky tonight the aurora will dance above your heads, flickering, changing every moment, full of otherworldly magic! Overnight in Ilulissat.

LULLISAT - PARIS

Transfer to the airport and flight to Kangerlussuaq, then arrival in Paris at the end of the evening.

The biggest tourist attraction in all of Greenland is the Ilulissat Kangerlua Ice Fjord, an iceberg-covered bay fed by the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, which is 5 km wide and 1,100 m thick. The glacier, the most prolific in the world outside of Antarctica, moves an average of 25 m per day.
